Resplendent in its Cotswold stone glory, College is the oldest, and one of the most famous, Victorian boarding schools. Established in 1841 with the original purpose of educating the sons of gentlemen, College today recognises the value of being a fully co-educational school from ages 3 - 18 and now educates both girls and boys in an environment that reflects modern society yet draws upon its rich tradition and heritage.

Why choose a school out of London?

A two hour drive or train journey allows pupils to enjoy 72 acres of beautiful grounds set within the Regency town of Cheltenham. New and younger pupils feel secure within the confines of the School grounds with its lake, sports fields, tennis courts, Astros, swimming pool, squash and rackets courts. As students mature, at a pace that suits them, Cheltenham provides a safe environment in which to become independent and take advantage of the internationally acclaimed science, music, literature and jazz festivals as well the theatre, museum, cinemas, cafes and restaurants.

Why co-educational?

College believes that co-education provides the most valuable and realistic educational option to help boys and girls interact as equals, relate to each other as valuable collaborators, worthy opponents and interesting individuals. Learning together they develop sophisticated social and emotional understanding which is key to world in which they will work. At College opportunities are not limited by gender, friends are not restricted to any particular category, and the education of pupils includes recognising others as unique individuals and rejecting stereotypical notions about what it means to be a boy or a girl.

Why boarding?

College is one of the few full British boarding schools with 80% of pupils boarding. This ensures that the weekend experience is shared by everyone, from academic lessons on Saturday morning through to sports for all in the afternoon. House trips, lectures, musical concerts or perhaps a School play punctuate the evenings and Sundays can be a day to relax or visit a favourite café or even enjoy valuable additional study time. The warm and welcoming atmosphere in the Houses combined with close relationships with teachers makes school feel like a real home from home.

Why Cheltenham College?

At our heart is a strong focus on academic achievement. All our pupils are stretched academically and go on to achieve their best in a positive and supportive environment. The curriculum is broad and purposeful with lessons complemented by extensive school trips and over 30 clubs and societies. 2014 was a record year for Cheltenham College pupils at GCSE, with two-thirds of all results at A or A*. The majority of pupils will go on to Russell Group Universities including Oxbridge and increasingly universities overseas.

Community life and friendship are hugely important at Cheltenham College. Founded on Christian principles with a strong house system, the school inspires loyalty, respect and integrity and is ambitious for each and everyone of its pupils. Pastoral care is exceptional with every pupil developing socially as well as academically. Most days start with a service in our beautiful Chapel which seats all 665 pupils and is the perfect place for staff and pupils alike to reflect on the value of being a part of the College community.
